![]() Vulkan let's you use more of the latest and greatest shaders. (wip: insert default settings vs my settings here) ![]() I had to heavily scale down the default settings to achieve decent colors on my HDR monitor, however. The MacOS Vulkan shader comes with HDR, nicely configurable in the UI. I try to explain why this will probably become a major game changer and even less reason for me to use MAME. Update 13 January 2023, several amendments and Preemptive Frames as third big thingĢ023 starts with some big news for Mac Retrogaming: RetroArch received a Vulkan driver for MacOS via the MoltenVK layer and further big things. You can test the status of the qmc2 app (any app) by this Terminal command: The above Terminal command removes this attribute from your machine. Why? The MacOs Extended Attributes are stored locally on each machine, and at some point in time, the qmc2 application has been quarantined. (assuming that you put the app into the Applications folder) On my machines, resetting the attributes with the following Terminal command was necessary (error that the application is damaged): I started MAME with the help of QMC2, and it is still a classic frontend experience So yes, now QMC2 builds with Homebrew as well, however, still with a hickup in qmake, which can be fixed manually. Zip now also includes a zip file that needs to be extracted into the ROOT Library/Application Support folder. Update November 2022: Another build plus codesigned by me, this time Homebrew, available here: ![]() All other instructions below also apply to this build. You still must bypass the Gatekeeper by right-click open for two times. This will not work on Apple Silicon, use the Silicon build from November 2022 instead. Update January 2023: new MacIntel build should actually work, sorry for the confusion: The last official OpenEmu build is one year old, and while I manage compiling the app from source, I fail on the Arcade core on Apple Silicon (currently disabled by the developers). The standalone build of FBNeo still has no joystick support on Macs, so currently no option. Certainly no own builds required - spare your time for other builds down in the list. Nothing else to mention here - it's all in this Blog. MAME (current) recently got come good updates within RetroArch. ![]() With recent stable and nightly builds, FBNeo has a clear advantage over MAME due to the Vulkan plugin enabling HDR, powerful shaders and RetroAchievements. Notes: This is the main purpose of the Blog. State: perfect (MAME native and FBNeo RetroArch), MAME (current) RetroArch showing improvements, outdated (OpenEmu)īinary: official MAME (monthly), FBNeo and MAME (current) (within RetroArch), OpenEmu (experimental) Emulation: Arcade Games (updated 26 July 2023)Įmulator(s): FBNeo (Libretro Core), MAME (official), MAME current (Libretro Core), OpenEmu ![]()
